Two '90s inspired looks to try for your Saturday night Houseparty sesh

The age of Houseparty and Zoom calls becoming a daily occurrence is upon us. We’re seeing after-work drinks, virtual birthday parties, themed cocktail hours, online trivia nights and plenty of other social activities go virtual. Even though we’re now only seeing each other on a screen, there’s nothing stopping you from still getting dressed up on a Saturday night, popping on your favourite lipstick, pouring a drink and logging on to chat with your friends. So, if you’ve got a calendar invite for ‘Virtual catchup with the gals’ this Saturday night then give one of these ‘90s-inspired looks a go before you log on.

Nothing says peak ‘90s beauty like an overlined lip. This quick and easy look involves just two steps, but the finished look will turn heads (on your call). Start by tracing the rich chocolatey colour of MECCA MAX’s Pout Pencil in ‘Super’ around the outside of the lip, concentrating the colour on the outermost part of the lip line for a fuller effect. At this point you could also use a dense concealer brush to buff and soften the colour inwards towards the middle of the lips if you wanted a more subtle effect. The final step is a few layers of Gloss Boss in ‘Shine Time’ and you’re done. Easy—and so ‘90s right now.

A smouldering smokey eye worthy of a ‘90s supermodel? This is it. It’s neutral, matte and easy to achieve regardless of your makeup application skills. Build up the colour from the Dream Queen Palette on the eyelids using a brush and then take the brighter shades from the palette and apply to the cheeks in an upward direction (yes, this is one very versatile eye and cheek palette). Complete the look by applying Pout Pencil in ‘Plush’ all over the lips—the deep plum shade is the perfect match to your sultry smokey eye. All finished? Snap a selfie and jump on that call with your gals.
