“I have, not so secretly, been loving lockdown!” admits Underwood. “Since I’ve been home in London,
I’ve worked on building a ‘new norm’ for day to day life whilst leaning into the pause that this weird
moment in time has provided us. I’ve been doing the Deepak Chopra 21 Abundance Meditation, I’ve been
doing online courses from Yale and London Business School, I’ve started cooking and running... and
luckily, I’ve had a lot of work on so the time has been spent as well as can be!”
With travel and events cancelled (“I’ve had the dates of 10 weddings moved”) – “there is a LOT of time
for digging deep!” she says.
Returning to London after visiting her hometown of Sydney just as COVID-19 was being properly
understood meant had Underwood truly understanding the importance of being in self-isolation and
lockdown. However, “the positive change I’ve noticed is that there’s a real feeling of comradeship
on the streets, as if we’re a team and we’re all in this together. People are being very friendly
and engaging which isn’t the norm with the Brits! Also, on Thursday nights we all ‘clap for our
carers’ and the NHS which is very moving and beautiful.”
With several of her own businesses (jewellery brand Atelier Romy, her blog
and brand consulting)and her consulting
work, Underwood was already working from home. “Without the travel, meetings and events, the biggest
change I’ve noticed is the amount of time I get real work done.”
She has been doing a daily outfit selfie on Instagram. “Whilst it might seem trivial, I find getting dressed ‘properly’
really puts me in the right mindset to take on the workday,” she says. “If I am lazy in how I dress
and start the day, it affects my productivity massively. Also, getting dressed during the week means
you can differentiate between weekdays and weekends, so you can be more relaxed on the weekend in
tracksuits and switch off to Netflix.”
Now that she has been spending most of her time at home, she has been making the most of upping her
skin and health regimens, from skincare to facemasks. “I am obsessed with MZ Skin. I have the
pleasure of knowing Dr Maryam Zamani as she lives in London and her products are revolutionary – I
swear by them.” Her favourites are Rest & Revive Restorative Placenta Stem Cell Night Serum and the Soothe and Smooth Collagen
Activating Eye Complex.
She’s equally a fan of Dr
Sturm’s line of high performing skincare. “My favourites are the Enzyme Cleanser, the Face Cream and lately I’ve
finally had the time to try the Hyaluronic Ampoules.”
