1 STAND-OUT TREND, 3 WAYS TO WEAR IT If the last Ready-To-Wear shows are anything to go by, trust us when we say the cherry lip is definitely a makeup move you’ll want to perfect this season. No matter what your style, there’s an ultra-flattering take on it for everyone - from the safe and subtle diffused lip, to the hi-glam, glossy cherry or a more dramatic, dark statement. Here, MECCA Makeup Artist Sally Axford shows you how to customise the new cherry lip with three different looks. PREP & PRIME “Like anything, preparation is key for a truly perfect pout; it will make your colour glide on more smoothly, prevent your lipstick from bleeding, and prolong its wear. I recommend starting with this step for each of the three lip looks.”
Step 1. Gently exfoliate lips with Mecca Cosmetica Kissable Lips to ensure the skin is as smooth as can be. Step 2. Apply the balm side of Mecca Cosmetica Line & Prime Artistry Lip Perfector to moisturise and soften lips. Then, use the wax side to line around the lip line to prevent your lip colour from bleeding around the edges.
THE DIFFUSED LIP “This is all about wearing a strong cherry hue but in quite an ‘undressed’ way - it’s not supposed to look precise or too perfect. You’ll know you’ve mastered it when you look like you’ve been nibbling on cherries.”
Step 1. Dab By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick in Dark Purple onto the inner of your top and bottom lip. Step 2. With an eyeshadow brush, softly blend the lipstick out to diffuse the pigment (there should be more colour in the center of the lips than on the edges).
THE GLOSSY CHERRY LIP “It’s glamorous, it’s high maintenance, it’s 70s supermodel. This lip is the ultimate accessory.”
Step 1. Using a lip brush for greater precision, apply a light layer of the Stila Liquid Lipstick in Bacca onto the lips. Step 2. Sharpen the edges and define the lip line with Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Pencil in Icon. Step 3. Wait a few seconds for this to dry before following with a generous layer of Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Glamour over the top for a high-shine finish.
THE DARK ANGEL LIP “This one comes direct from the Rodarte AW16 show where MECCA’s Head of Artistry worked with the NARS team to create this lip. It looks amazing when worn with radiant, highlighted skin to contrast the depth of the lip.”
Step 1. Draw NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu over lips. Don’t worry about being too precise around the edges as you can fix this up in the next step. Step 2. Sketch NARS Eyeliner in Mambo around the lip to perfect your lip line (ensure it’s sharpened so you can get a really bold, sharp finish). Then sketch this liner lightly over the entire lip to create depth. Step 3. Using NARS Push Eyeliner brush, trace a small amount of NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer around the outside edge of the lips to perfect and sharpen up the edges. Opt for a shade of concealer slightly fairer than your skin tone as this will add a highlight effect and make your lips appear fuller.
